Arroyo faces 4th plunder suit

These OWWA funds are private funds to be used exclusively for the benefit and welfare of OFWs.

They should be made to account for these private funds. The government acts only as trustees. They cannot be converted to public funds... it is also 'of public knowledge' that Mrs. Arroyo distributed millions of health cards from the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. to ensure her victory in the last presidential elections.

The OWWA funds financed the acquisitions made by several diplomatic posts in the Middle East, the humanitarian assistance to Iraq, and the reelection bid of President Arroyo.

For GMA to order the release of P200 million for election fraud is a clear act of betrayal of public trust.

I am meeting eight more people to execute affidavits to say they were part of a scheme to distribute rice, medicine and cash in Mindanao under Oplan Mercury.

Rice, equipment, fertilizers and money were issued to politicians to help GMA win through cheating in the greater part of Mindanao through Pagcor, Department of Health (DOH), National Food Authority, and Department of Agriculture (DA) funds.

No funds of government were spared from the campaign and electoral cheating in Mindanao. Our fight against graft continues. Honor is dead among government officials. We must restore honor in public service.

Oplan Mercury was executed through tampering of election results with the connivance of Commission on Election officials, buying off opposition candidates, and massive use of government resources.

Philippines denies paying ransom

We know that some newspapers have engaged in speculation that Manila paid up to six million dollars to buy the liberty of Angelo de la Cruz.

That is not true.

The Philippines has had a long experience with terrorists in our midst... We'll apply the same pressure to those who threaten Filipinos or Philippine interests.

Pledge Michael Moore wants supporters to sign

I Will Adopt 5 Nonvoters I Know and Take Them to the Polls.

You know who they are. Your slacker friends who have given up on the whole rotten group of politicians who run this country. Or they're the people you know who have had their lives made full of hardships thanks to the policies set by those very politicians. They too, have given up. And who can blame them? Why should they waste two minutes on voting?

Of course, that is just what those in power want them thinking. The more of us who give up, the more the rich and powerful can run amok over our lives. And there is perhaps no election in our lifetime more important than this one.

Pick five of the people you know who probably aren't going to vote. Acknowledge their despair and cynicism. Don't try to talk them out of it. But gently give them pieces of information over the next few months.

And then make a plan for Election Day. Take them out to vote and out to lunch (you pick up the tab!). Or have a party that night for those who voted that day.

Or get more creative. Offer a six-pack to anyone in the office who votes (make sure you're not working in cubicles full of Republicans!). Promise to have sex with a nonvoter - whatever it takes!

Is Kerry Involved in Berger Scandal? This is heating up!

Taking highly classified documents, stuffing them in his trousers, using them for the Kerry campaign, and then admitting to destroying those documents.

He says it was sloppy... I will admit to you, when you stuff classified legal documents in your briefs, it looks sloppy. But it may be worse than that. And in fairness to the president of the United States, it's important that this be followed and pursued so that the American people can know that the predicate of many of the charges made against George W. Bush are based upon lies and deception. And the American people need the truth on these matters.

by Sen. Gordon Smith *
R - Oregon

Now, I would hope that, number one, the Kerry administration would immediately disavow any connection with Sandy Berger, that they would come forward with any documents, whether legal or illegal documents, that have been presented to them by Sandy Berger, and that we can bring this matter to a close very quickly," Chambliss said. "No accusations are being made about how they used or if they used these documents, but this is extremely sensitive, folks, and this involves a significant breach in our intelligence community, and the Kerry campaign needs to come forward with the answers to this.

John Kerry held a photo-op and attacked the president on port security. The documents that were taken may have been utilized for that press conference. They were then destroyed, according to Mr. Berger.

And as a member of the Intelligence Committee, I deal with classified documents every single day," he said. "We know better. And Sandy Berger knew better. And for gosh sakes, Senator Kerry knows better than to utilize those documents in any way, and we think it needs to be called into question as to whether or not they have.

R - Georgia

Cheney Speaks

Both Sens. Edwards and Kerry have consistently voted against medical liability reform. They don't want to see reform of that system. I think it's because, frankly, they are too close to the plaintiffs' attorneys that benefit from the system and the way it operates today.

by Richard Cheney *
Vice President of the United States

Sen. Kerry and I are going to stand with families and kids as we always have, as we believe it's important for the president and the vice president to do, instead of being on the side of insurance companies and big drug companies, which is unfortunately where they are.

by John Edwards *
Candidate for Vice President of the United States

To say they oppose changes to medical malpractice, that's Cheney's interpretation, not fact.

by Jennifer Palmieri *
Kerry Spokeswoman

Tthe way the system works now, we get an awful lot of frivolous lawsuits filed. Lots of times they file simply in the hope that it'll never go to trial - that they'll be able to hoo-rah the insurance company into paying them a substantial chunk of money.

More on Sandy Berger

Mr. Berger does not want any issue surrounding the 9/11 commission to be used for partisan purposes. With that in mind he has decided to step aside as an informal adviser to the Kerry campaign until this matter is resolved.

by Lanny Breuer *
Attorney for Mr. Berger

As a general matter, we take issues of classified information very seriously.

It's our lifeblood, those secrets.

It's against the law for anyone to intentionally mishandle classified documents either by taking it to give to somebody else or by mishandling it in a way that is outside the government regulations.

by James Comey *
Deputy Attorney General

There's an ethic here -- that is of strict discipline, of not letting the fact you're working on a political campaign start to color your actions when it comes to national security.

by Rep. Duncan Hunter *
R-California

Unless we learn otherwise, I have to assume that what Sandy said was right -- that any removal of documents was inadvertent. But it is serious.

by Sen. Joe Lieberman *
D-Connecticut

We need more information -- obviously the timing of it is not good" for Kerry.

From now on, until the election, everything like this will have a spotlight put on it, examined very carefully.

by Sen. Trent Lott *
R-Mississippi

I think it's more innocent than it looks.

I have known Sandy Berger for a long time.

"He would never do anything to compromise the security of the United States."

It is suspicious that word of the investigation of Berger would emerge just as the Sept. 11 commission is about to release its report, since 'this investigation started months ago.'

Filipino hostage freed in Iraq

I am very, very happy. His (Angelo dela Cruz's) health is okay ... His family is waiting for him.

I would not let him go back to the Middle East another time.

Arsenia de la Cruz (Angelo's wife)*
while in Philippine Embassy-Amman

I'm happy to announce that our long national vigil involving Angelo [de] la Cruz is over. I thank the Lord Almighty for his blessings.

His health is good, his spirits high and he sends best wishes to every Filipino for their thoughts and prayers.
